Start: June, 2024 End: January, 2025
Background
Catalyste+ is a Canadian organization with an office in Tanzania. They provide technical expertise to organizations through the provision of volunteer experts in various aspects of organizational development. Support for the Kesho Trust was provided in four key areas of operation outlined below. Most of the support was provided through on-line instruction and meetings, although in-country was provided during the work on the strategic plan. The KT was responsible for logistical support costs of their own as well as for travel expenses of the expert working in-country.
Organizational Development Components
The four areas of organizational development addressed were as follows:
- Development of a 5-year Strategic Plan (2025-2030)
- This 5-year Strategic Plan (2025-2030) articulates the direction and approach of the organization to achieve its mission and realize its vision over the next 5 years. Specifically, the plan prioritizes efforts, defines the focus and geographical coverage, anticipates challenges, identifies competitive advantages, addresses biases in decision-making and improves operational efficiency among leadership of the organization. It promotes and contributes to a strong organizational culture, The plan is being finalized by the Kesho Trust team in Tanzania and will be publicly released shortly.
- Development of a Resource Mobilization and Fundraising Strategy
- This strategy was developed to identify the approaches for effective resource mobilization and fundraising. The KT team was also trained on identification of possible funding sources and how to approach each of the identified funders. The fundraising strategy and associated training will enhance and improve performance of the organization in achieving the goals identified in the strategic plan.
- Development of a Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Framework
- This framework was developed to improve the delivery of projects. Specifically it addresses: how to monitor effectiveness; the nature and process for data collection to assess effectiveness of impacts, how to monitor indicators of change, how to identify successes and challenges; and, ways to improve implementation strategies. Now it is helping to inform decision-making and strategic programming of the organization as well as strengthening institutional accountability and compliance with reporting requirements.
- Development of a Gender Policy and Analysis Tool
- Founded in large part to support Tanzanian women to better support their families through the development of alternative livelihoods compatible with conservation and sustainability principles, the Kesho Trust has always had a long-standing commitment to gender equity in its dealings. The Gender Policy and Analysis Tool will aid the Kesho Trust to enhance inclusion of Women, Youth and People with Disabilities (PWD) in all the work of the organization. It will also identify and help us to explore new partnership opportunities with credible and reputable partner organizations.
